Interested In NY Herps

If you are interested in learning about the reptiles and amphibians of New York State, the Department of Environmental Conservation may be the website for you. They have a fairly informative number of web pages relative to herps. Their main herp page is at this address: http://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/277.html

They also have many other pages linked to that one and additional links on yet those other pages. Some of the more informative ones are:

The NY State Herp Atlas: http://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/7140.html

Species of Toads and Frogs Found In New York: http://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/7487.html

Species of Turtles Found In New York: http://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/7479.html

Species of Lizards and Snakes Found In New York: http://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/7483.html

They also list a good number of species specific fact sheets, such as:

Box Turtle Fact Sheet: http://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/7164.html

Timber Rattlesnake Fact Sheet: http://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/7147.html

Eastern Hellbender Fact Sheet: http://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/7160.html

Information found within the fact sheets for each species includes things like: a description of the herp, natural history info and a range map.

All the best,
